On June 6, 2025, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach's Prison Ministry held its annual RESCATE Retreat at Martin Correctional Institution in Indiantown—an extraordinary spiritual weekend designed to uplift and renew the hearts of incarcerated men seeking deeper meaning and connection with God.
The retreat, held Friday, June 6 through Pentecost Sunday, spanned over 30 hours of spiritual reflection, fellowship, and sacramental grace. With a dedicated team of 20 volunteer men, the weekend offered a powerful combination of witness talks, meditations, Adoration, the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation, and ended with the distribution of certificates of participation to 40 inmate attendees.
A special highlight of the weekend was the visit of the “RESCATE Angels”—a group of women who arrived Saturday to lift spirits and inspire hearts through 30 minutes of Christian hymns, filling the prison chapel with music and hope.
Thanks to the support of Catholic Charities, seven meals were provided throughout the retreat, underscoring the ministry’s holistic commitment to nourishing both body and soul.
Deacon Gregory Quinn, Director of Prison Ministry, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Miguel Carvajal, the weekend’s Rector, and Vice Rector Richard Reccardi, as well as all those who gave their time and hearts to this mission of mercy.
The fruit of this retreat is already being felt. Just days later, many of the retreat participants returned to the weekly Catholic Christian Service held at the facility. One inmate’s simple yet powerful reflection summed up the impact best: “I want what the Catholic Church gives me—peace.”
Catholic Charities remains committed to walking alongside our incarcerated brothers, helping them discover hope, healing, and the transforming love of Christ—one soul at a time.
