Pahokee, FL – August 2025 — Just in time for the new school year, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach brought smiles and school spirit to the families of the Glades with a heartwarming school supply drive held at the St. Mary’s Center in Pahokee.
Thanks to the generosity of Joan Abbott & Jay Prager of Groton, MA, 28 local children received brand-new backpacks filled with essential school supplies — from notebooks and pencils to crayons, glue sticks, and folders — giving them a confident and prepared start to the school year. The drive, coordinated through Catholic Charities’ Pahokee office, aimed to support families facing financial challenges and ease the burden of back-to-school expenses.
The St. Mary’s Center, a vital hub for Catholic Charities’ outreach in the Glades area, continues to serve as a place of hope and support for vulnerable families. The back-to-school drive is just one of many ways Catholic Charities works to meet both the spiritual and practical needs of the community.
