Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program Awards $20,000 Grant to Support Homeless Families at Samaritan Center

March 2026: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is proud to announce it has received a $20,000 grant award from the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program (GHCOP) in support of its Samaritan Center in Vero Beach.

This generous funding will directly support the Samaritan Center’s transitional housing program, which serves homeless families in Indian River County by providing safe housing, life skills training, and comprehensive support services aimed at building self-sufficiency.

The Samaritan Center is one of only a few programs in the region dedicated exclusively to helping families experiencing homelessness. Through a structured, multi-level program, residents receive guidance in parenting, financial literacy, employment readiness, and education—empowering them to achieve long-term stability and independence.

Families typically remain in the program for six to nine months, during which time they build the skills necessary to transition successfully into permanent housing. With continued aftercare support, many families maintain stability well beyond program completion.

“We are deeply grateful to the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program for their generosity and partnership,” said Ellen T. Wayne, CEO of Catholic Charities. “As Scripture reminds us, ‘For I was homeless and you gave me a home’ (Matthew 25). This gift is more than funding—it is a reflection of compassion in action, helping families rediscover dignity, stability, and hope for the future.”

The need for programs like the Samaritan Center remains critical. In Indian River County and across the Treasure Coast, many families face housing instability due to rising costs, limited affordable housing, and economic hardship. Catholic Charities serves more than 15,000 individuals annually across its programs, working to bring hope and stability to those most in need.

Catholic Charities extends its sincere thanks to the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program for their partnership and commitment to strengthening the community. Together, we are creating pathways out of homelessness and building brighter futures for families in need.
