For more than a 2 decades, Pete Ritenburg has quietly and faithfully supported the mission of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach—a commitment rooted in a deeply personal experience that continues to shape lives today.
Years ago, Pete found himself in an overwhelming situation. His uncle, Paul, was alone—facing serious cognitive, medical and financial challenges, without the support of his immediate family. He was living alone, in dire medical and financial circumstances, and unable to care for himself. As Pete described, “I was at wit's end trying to figure out how I could help my Uncle from several states away," That’s when Catholic Charities’ Elder Affairs Guardianship Program stepped in. Pete said, " In the ensuing years, Catholic Charities did everything for Paul, housing, food, medical care, and even selling his mobile home and using the proceeds for Paul's benefit."
Through the compassionate intervention of the Elder Affairs Guardianship program, Pete’s uncle received the care, stability, and dignity he deserved. What had been a dire and uncertain situation quickly transformed into one of safety and support. Reflecting on that time, Pete shared that the program didn’t just help—it saved his uncle’s life.
In gratitude, Pete began giving back. Since the 90's, he has remained a loyal annual donor, directing his contributions specifically to the Elder Affairs Program in memory of his uncle.
Pete's generosity helps ensure that vulnerable seniors —many living with dementia, without family, and unable to pay for guardianship—receive the same life-changing care his uncle once did. Pete's story is a powerful reminder that behind every gift is a story of impact. His ongoing support honors his uncle’s memory while extending hope and protection to others who would otherwise face their final years alone.
With humility and even a touch of humor, Pete often downplays his role. But the truth is simple: his compassion continues to make a profound difference. Because of donors like Pete, Catholic Charities can continue its mission—providing not just services, but dignity, care, and a sense of belonging to those most in need.
Thank you, Pete, for turning gratitude into lasting impact.
