Celebrating Independence Day by Sharing Hope at the Palm Beach Regional Juvenile Detention Center

This Independence Day, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach's Prison Ministry hosted a day of joy, fellowship, and encouragement to the youth at the Palm Beach Regional Juvenile Detention Center in West Palm Beach.

The July 4 celebration featured a festive barbecue with food provided by Catholic Charities and a 30-foot water slide generously donated by a community supporter. For the young people in residence, the afternoon offered more than just a meal and recreation—it provided an opportunity to experience kindness, laughter, and the reassuring presence of people who genuinely care.

Events like these reflect the heart of our Prison Ministry, which seeks to bring Christ's love to individuals who are incarcerated or detained, reminding them that they are never beyond hope or God's mercy. Through consistent visitation, encouragement, and acts of compassion, volunteers help restore dignity and foster a sense of belonging.

Among those serving was Nitya Mathew, a dedicated volunteer at the juvenile detention center who also serves as Coordinator for the PBSO Main Detention Center. Her commitment, along with that of many faithful volunteers, demonstrates the profound difference that compassionate service can make in the lives of others.

Catholic Charities extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this celebration possible. We are especially grateful to our generous donor who provided the water slide and to the volunteers whose time, faith, and dedication transformed an ordinary summer day into a memorable celebration of hope.

At Catholic Charities, we believe every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and love. We are honored to continue serving those who often feel forgotten, helping them discover that hope is always within reach.
