October 13-15, 2026 Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach participated in the Catholic Charities USA's Annual Gathering in Richmond, Virginia, joining colleagues from across the country to exchange ideas, share expertise and strengthen efforts to serve individuals and families in need.
Representing the Diocese of Palm Beach, Ellen T. Wayne, Chief Executive Officer, and Rocio Lopez, Director of the Hunger, Homeless & Outreach Program, contributed their experience and leadership to the national gathering.
Lopez presented on Catholic Charities Palm Beach's work in homelessness prevention, highlighting efforts to help individuals and families facing housing insecurity remain safely housed. Through emergency financial assistance and supportive services, the Hunger, Homeless & Outreach Program works to address housing crises before they lead to homelessness, helping families move toward greater stability.
Wayne participated in the gathering in her role as Vice Chair of the Council of Diocesan Directors, saying the morning prayer and reflecting her leadership and engagement within the Catholic Charities community. Her role helps foster collaboration and shared learning among diocesan leaders committed to advancing the mission of Catholic Charities.
The gathering provided an opportunity to learn from colleagues nationwide, exchange effective practices and gain insights that can strengthen local programs and services. These connections are especially valuable as Catholic Charities agencies respond to complex challenges, including homelessness, disaster recovery, immigration needs and support for vulnerable populations.
