Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach welcomed families from Pahokee, Belle Glade and surrounding Glades communities to its Community Health & Wellness Event on October 24, 2026, bringing together local organizations to connect residents with valuable health services, family support and community resources.
The event highlighted the importance of making essential services accessible to families and strengthening community partnerships that promote health and well-being.
A special highlight was the partnership with Lois Pope and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, part of the University of Miami Health System, which provided vision screenings for children through the Lois’ Vision4Kids program. Children ages 3–18 had the opportunity to receive vision screenings to help identify potential vision concerns.
Children who required comprehensive eye examinations were eligible for additional care, including two pairs of prescription eyeglasses at no cost, mailed directly to their homes. Every child who completed a vision examination also received a free pair of sunglasses, helping support healthy vision both in and out of the classroom.
Catholic Charities was also pleased to welcome community partners FoundCare, BRIDGES, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County, the Glades Initiative, and other organizations dedicated to supporting local families. Their participation helped connect attendees with resources designed to promote family wellness and strengthen the community.
By bringing health services and support directly to the Glades, the event helped reduce barriers to care and reinforced the value of collaboration in addressing community needs.
Catholic Charities extends its sincere gratitude to Lois Pope, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and all participating community partners for helping make this event possible. Through these partnerships, Catholic Charities continues its mission of serving people in need and creating hope in all stages of life.
