A client was referred to Women’s Pregnancy Solutions by Birthline after calling for a same-day appointment. Birthline did not have availability, and the client shared that she was determined to pursue an abortion and wanted to confirm how far along she was.
When she arrived at our mobile unit, she hesitated to continue the appointment, explaining that if abortion was not an option, she wasn’t sure she wanted to proceed. Our staff reassured her that the decision was entirely hers, while also letting her know that we had many free resources available to support her.
The client shared that she understood Florida’s six-week abortion limit and wanted an ultrasound to see if she was before that point. As the conversation continued, she opened up about her situation. She has a three-year-old son and felt she had just begun to regain some independence as he became more self-sufficient. She also shared concerns rooted in her own upbringing, explaining that she grew up with limited financial resources and wanted a different future for her children.
We invited her to step inside the unit so we could continue the conversation comfortably. Inside, she expressed feeling torn—acknowledging that the pregnancy was not the baby’s fault, but feeling unready to give up her freedom again. Our team reassured her that she was not alone and shared information about available support. This included Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, which can assist with pregnancy Medicaid enrollment using a free proof of pregnancy form we provided and help connect her to additional in-home and parenting support.
We also explained the continued support available through Birthline, including material assistance for her children up to the age of three, as well as ongoing guidance in creating personal goals and practical life plans for her future. Hearing about these long-term supports helped her see that help would extend beyond the pregnancy.
The client agreed to continue the appointment to receive the proof of pregnancy form, sharing that she wanted time to think through her decision. After watching the “Before You Decide” video, she became more emotional, and our team offered comfort and reassurance. Although it was too early for a conclusive ultrasound, she agreed to schedule one for a later date. She shared that while she arrived abortion-minded, she left feeling undecided.
During a follow-up call a few days later, the client shared that she had contacted Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies and begun the Medicaid process. She expressed deep gratitude for her visit, stating that coming to Women’s Pregnancy Solutions allowed her the time, space, and information she needed to think through her decision and learn about supportive resources—many of which she had not known were available or had access to during her first pregnancy.
