Vicky is a 33-year-old woman who came to our Women’s Pregnancy Solutions mobile unit seeking a proof of pregnancy and confirmation ultrasound. She is currently living with her boyfriend, whom she has been dating for about a year. Both recently completed all stages of a drug rehabilitation program and are now working hard to keep their lives on track. Although they each have children from previous relationships, they do not currently have custody, which weighed heavily on Vicky’s heart. While her boyfriend was excited about the pregnancy, Vicky felt unsure and undeserving of becoming a mother again, despite how deeply she wanted to be. She shared fears that her other children might feel left out or resentful due to her past. During her visit, we spoke with Vicky about her self-worth, the possibility of rebuilding relationships with her children, and the hope that healing allows new beginnings. She was also connected with local resources, including our sister program Birthline, which offers free parenting classes and assistance with baby and maternity items, as well as Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, which can help her apply for pregnancy Medicaid and provide continued support throughout and after her pregnancy. Vicky’s pregnancy test was positive, and her boyfriend joined her for the ultrasound. He was visibly excited, and when Vicky saw her baby on the screen, she became overwhelmed with happiness. Moments later, she learned she was expecting twins. Her boyfriend cried tears of joy, and though Vicky was initially in shock, she shared that she felt it was a sign from God. In that moment, her uncertainty gave way to peace and confidence. Vicky left our mobile unit with a change of heart, certain she would continue with the pregnancy. While the news of twins felt overwhelming, she expressed renewed strength and hope, knowing she is not alone and that support, resources, and encouragement are available to help her step into this new chapter of motherhood.
