Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach Receives Grant Award from FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $160,046 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter Program. This grant, administered locally through the United Way of Palm Beach County, will be instrumental in supporting our efforts to provide vital homeless prevention services to individuals and families in need throughout the community.

The funds awarded through the FEMA's Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) will be allocated towards our homeless prevention initiatives, including rent, mortgage, and utility assistance. These essential services play a crucial role in helping individuals and families facing financial hardship maintain stable housing and avoid the risk of homelessness.

Through our partnership with the United Way of Palm Beach County, Catholic Charities remains committed to addressing the root causes of homelessness and providing comprehensive support services to individuals and families in crisis. Together, we strive to create a community where all individuals have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

About the Emergency Food and Shelter Program: 

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program was created in 1983 to supplement and expand the work of local social service agencies, both nonprofit and governmental, in an effort to help people with economic emergencies.  EFSP is governed by a National Board that selects jurisdictions for funding. Local Boards are convened in those qualifying jurisdictions to determine the highest need and best use of funds and to select Local Recipient Organizations that will provide emergency food and shelter services. Each year, needs are to be assessed in an effort to respond to changes in the community.

United Way of Palm Beach County’s role is to administer the EFSP program locally, which includes facilitating the local EFSP board, coordinating the distribution of EFSP funds to local emergency food and shelter programs, and monitoring and providing technical assistance to those programs regarding EFSP funds.
