Thanks to a $20,000 grant from the John's Island Foundation, the Samaritan Center, serving homeless families in Indian River County, will receive much needed security enhancements to the building. The enhancements include added LED lighting and additional security cameras. The Samaritan Center provides transitional housing and guidance to homeless families in Indian River County and prepares them to live independently. The average length of stay is 6-9 months. During their stay, the Samaritan Center partners with resident families to provide a nurturing environment, safe housing, case management, support/educational services, and connection to community resources. Carol Rodriguez, Catholic Charities Interim Agent in Charge, says "the Samaritan Center serves very vulnerable children and families who have experienced homelessness, and upgraded security is essential for their well being. We are so thankful to the John's Island community for their commitment to improve the quality of live for these families."
The John's Island Foundation provides capital funding to broaden opportunities, build community and transform lives for neighbors- in-need in Indian River County. Thanks to the outpouring of generosity from the John's Island community, the John’s Island Foundation has invested over $13 million in capital grants in Indian River County over these twenty-one years.
