Update on Hurricane Dorian Evacuees in Palm Beach County

Palm Beach Gardens, FL (January 28, 2020) – Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is pleased to announce that the Bahamian families who landed in Palm Beach County as evacuees following Hurricane Dorian are receiving the following services:

  • Housing assistance through InTown Suites
  • Weekly food and household item gift cards
  • 31-day Palm Tran bus passes
  • Transportation assistance back to the Bahamas via Bahama Paradise Cruise Line as requested
  • Cash assistance upon return to the Bahamas
  • Utility assistance for those in private homes

Catholic Charities has two (2) assigned case managers working one-on-one with the families to ensure their housing and other basic needs are being met.  Funding to support these activities has come from a variety of sources including but not limited to:

  • Catholic Charities USA
  • Allegany Franciscan Ministries
  • American Red Cross
  • Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties
  • Palm Beach Kennel Club
  • United Way of Palm Beach County

Some families have begun their journey back to the Bahamas to rebuild their lives there. The remaining families continue to receive help with their long-term recovery plans and will be linked with resources and aid when they eventually return to the Bahamas.
