Protection Needed for our Pregnancy Care Centers

We are anxiously awaiting a decision on the Dobbs (Abortion) case from the Supreme Court (SCOTUS), that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade. While we are excited about the potential decision in favor of life, Catholic Charities is keenly aware of rising tensions and threats against pro-life organizations and pregnancy resource centers nationally.

An extremist group known as Jane’s Revenge is taking responsibility for destruction (vandalism, arson) at Pregnancy Resource Center's in various cities. Over 20 centers have experienced vandalism thus far since the leak of the draft SCOTUS decision, to include a center in Hollywood, Florida run by our neighboring diocese. Jane's Revenge has made a call for violent action if Roe v. Wade is overturned and has called for a "night of rage" the day and evening the announcement is made.

We anticipated a possible announcement yesterday - and took measures to hire security at many of our facilities and pregnancy care centers. While the decision was not released, we will continue to monitor the situation, remain in contact with law enforcement, and ask our staff to be on high alert.

We expect the need to hire armed off-duty police officers to ensure the safety and security of our clients, staff, and facilities in the coming weeks - especially on the day and after the SCOTUS decision is released (sometime within the next 2 weeks). This comes with a huge price tag, difficult for a nonprofit to cover. Security for half day at three of our facilities cost us roughly $1,000 yesterday. Multiple days of that will be a burden on our very limited financial resources.

We ask for your prayers for safety and help in covering our security needs in the next few weeks in order to keep the Catholic Charities facilities, our Birthline/Lifeline Pregnancy Care Centers, and our mobile pregnancy units safe. We will pray that nothing happens, but we must be ready if the promised violence comes our way.
